This is a Dhokra Bankura Horse figurine which is made using an age-old metal casting technique. These horses are traditionally used to depict the Sun god and hence seen as a unique and auspicious piece to own or gift.
Who doesn’t know about the 'Dancing Girl' bronze sculpture of Mohenjo-Daro, the great city of the Indus Valley Civilisation? This figurine was made using the same method that Dhokra artisans use today. In fact, the technique of making Dhokra art is said to have originated there, more than 4,000 years ago. For thousands of years, tribes stretching across the central belt of India have been using the same wax metal casting method to produce stunning pieces of art, such as this Dhokra Bankura Horse.
